Build License and/or Buy?
Consider plan and vision for the long term

Buy
  • consider return on investment. General guideline, if over 3 years, the enrollment will net a return on the cost of purchase, buying might be a consideration.
  • find out if your purchase will allow you to edit it; intellectual property associated issues
  • Is there a common cartridge for the course?
  • will the vendor put it into your LMS for you or how will it get there? (and how will you get it out)
  • can you purchase updates or can you update yourself? Will you include this in your contract?
Licensing
  • consider different models
  • ingest the course into your LMS or linking to their content. Consider data access issues
  • consider pricing and drop policies
  • consider SSO and course login. Basic LTI
